This week’s Wordless Wednesday will be nothing but words. Because I sometimes don’t do things for fear of being thought of as a crazed fan.

For example, back in the late ’80′s a little known actor was filming a largely unseen movie about a cop dog. This actor, I think he had a brother who was on some late night comedy show and may have been in a movie about blues music, anyway, he took a break from the set while they were filming a seen he wasn’t in. He was riding his bike around casually and came by and said, “Hello, how’s it going?” And I, being the person who didn’t want to be the gushing, annoying celebrity stalker, said, “Fine, thanks. How are you?” He said he was fine, then rode off. Of course, there’s no way I can prove any of this because I DIDN’T ASK FOR AN AUTOGRAPH OR PICTURE WITH HIM. But hey, I didn’t annoy him.

It’s happened a few other times in the past. Just run into someone with a little fame behind them and treat them like an everyday Joe. It appears to be how I roll. Most recently, on my business trip to Buffalo, I was setting up the tradeshow booth I was to man when a few people happened by. The man, who was in a motorized cart, looked awfully familiar, but I couldn’t place him. He was very nice, said hi and asked how I was. I was nice back, racking my brains… was this someone I knew? Should I know his name? Will he expect me to know something about him and where he works?

It was driving me insane.

Later, when my co-worker came to help, I asked if she knew who the man was. She said, “Oh, he’s some celebrity chef. Paul something. I didn’t recognize his name, though.” A dull glow of recognition started in my own brain, but I still wasn’t sure. I mean, it couldn’t be HIM, everyone knows who Paul Prudhomme is, right?

WRONG

It was Paul Prudhomme, as I was to find out later. GAH! And it has now happened again. Because you know damn well I didn’t go up to him later and say anything. Something about rolling and how I do it.

<sigh>

We watch art everyday. TV is easily the most pervasive/invasive art form there is. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some television. I even become semi-obsessed by shows. I TiVo almost everything I watch so I don’t have to sit through commercials and am not a slave to the time the shows are on. Of course this means oftentimes I have to avoid spoilers at work, online or even via phone, but it’s worth it to get to watch on my terms.

Today I spent a few hours in bed catching up on some of my shows I missed through last season (gotta get caught up before the new season starts) and watched the season finale of Rescue Me (one of my current obsessions). Part of why I wanted to write about this today is to voice my feelings on the show. They have so many strong characters and so many story lines, it gives them lots of ways to keep you guessing. You never know when they’re going to throw a twist in and completely shock you.

They did that last week. A character was injured and though I was semi-prepared, it just wasn’t a direction I expected it to go in or truly wanted it to. I was a little disappointed with the season finale, I must admit. I know not every show and every season will be great, but I just didn’t like the end of this particular one. And waiting as long as we did for the season to come back, it seemed short, rushed and honestly not their best work.

Hopefully next season will be better, and won’t be quite so far away.

My husband also combines food and art but in a much different manner. He is a chef who specializes in garde manger. In addition to his wonderful edible creations, he also does the following:

Yes, I know, art can be written. I love the written word and once wanted to be a writer. I don’t write as well as I used to, but occasionally am still able to turn a phrase or two.

My current written works can be seen here (when I can be bothered to actually do something) and at our company’s website. I periodically write posts about beverages (of the adult kind), food, the business of food and beverage, and the like. It’s fun and I enjoy it, but I often get so caught up in my day to day dealings with work that I miss out on getting to write. Hopefully soon it will even out and I can get a few things out there.

This rag here is giving me fits at the moment. An age (or three) ago I coded the CSS for my site using my actual unicorn artwork I love so much, but somehow broke the coding and never went back in to fix it. I started using free templates which I have enjoyed to a lesser extent, but they’re still nice. However, I can’t seem to get everything working. Social media links, upgrades and the like are suddenly eluding my attempts to include them in my online slice of life.

Art is oftentimes our reaction to angst. Ooooo, idea…

A – Angst

R – Relief

T – Therapy

Truly disgusting. I can’t get a good schedule going for my own blog. I go hot and heavy for a month or so then it’s as if there’s a total freeze. Ugh.

I received an email from NaBloPoMo for September’s theme which is ART. Great subject for me. I think I’ll play. Again. But I’m not making any promises that I’ll keep up with it or past the month. So don’t bet on me.

If you come to read, thanks. And I apologize for not keeping you entertained. Hell, I haven’t hardly been on Facebook or Twitter lately either. Ugh (again).

So, ART. Yep. I’ve always been a creative soul. My art of choice as a young person was music. Primarily flute. I received my bachelor’s in flute performance. But I don’t do it any more. If I can find a way to digitize the tapes I have of my performances, I’ll happily share. Give me time, though.

Further musical art took me to bagpipes and Irish flute and penny whistle. Lots of fun, but again I didn’t keep up with it. More musical art took me to Boston to transcribe music into sheet music form. This took me to Orlando and to a job that fell through in the sheet music department of a huge entertainment company in that city.

Art took a backseat for a while after that. Bills were more important and a family came along. I always dabbled, though.

Now I work for a marketing company and my art has become designing themed menus for restaurants, bars, concessions, etc. I work with graphic designers to create aesthetically pleasing menus and other POS to entice you to eat and drink. And I love it.

More talk of art later… Hell I have 29 more days to share.

Speaking of sharing, let me know what kind of art you are into. (Nothing crude, please. All you underwear comment spammers, thanks but no thanks.)
