I wanted the election to be behind me once it was over. I understand the political process is NOT over and I am ready for that to begin. I am ready to work in my position to make our country better. I am ready to hold government accountable for the change we need to overcome our recent adversities. However, the extreme conservative, so-called “wingnut” right is still spewing the same rhetoric and hate as they did throughout the election

I didn’t want to go here. I wanted to be done with everything. I was so happy when the candidate I felt was the best choice for our country was elected. I was resigned to the fact, if he didn’t win, that I would have to work just as hard, if not harder WITH a president I felt was inferior. But I lucked out. Now all I hear about are the McCain/Palin supporters who have been whipped into a fear induced frenzy talk about how much they love Palin. How much they would like to secede from the US. How everything is going to hell in a handbasket because we have a Democratic President with a Democratic majority in the House and Senate. But that is a hypocritical statement. That was exactly what the Republicans wanted for themselves. Republican President with Republican majority House and Senate.

So, where am I going with all this? I’m not really sure. I know I want everyone to work together. I’m tired of the sides. I agree with George Washington that parties, by their very nature create partisanship. But how do we fix it?

And this particular issue? How do we fix this? With Sarah Palin fueling the most hate in her followers. Whipping up such a frenzy that attendees are screaming very unpatriotic things about the competition. Creating a rift and furthering the divide. Playing the partisan card to her zealot-filled best. This is part of what frightens me.

But it isn’t all. I read the comments on Munchkin’s 6th grade Social Studies blog regarding the election. There are 11 and 12 year old children being told by their parents that the only reason Obama got any votes was because people wanted to elect an African American man. That sexism is alive and well if a black man can win over a white woman. That the Electoral College stole the election from McCain. That change is bad and we should keep everything exactly the same. That Obama will be taking away all the guns and closing all the gun stores. I mean really. I understand I live in the deep south. I do, I get it. But why can’t we get past this?

And the Palin zealots scare me most of all. Those who are looking forward to Palin for 2012. These people truly terrify me. This is a woman who drove such a wedge into the political process. Forget about the clothing shopping sprees. Forget about the winks and the accent. Forget the 5 kids, one being special needs, as this has no bearing on how she might be able to run a country. Concentrate on her inability to follow a line of questioning and answer appropriately. Concentrate on her inability to speak to any of the issues McCain stood for. Concentrate on her inability to give a speech without hate spewing regarding terrorists. Concentrate on her main goal of driving a wedge the size of Alaska into the middle of our country, dividing us into two camps who refuse to attempt to see eye to eye. Concentrate on her being such a maverick that she strikes out on her own, essentially working against her own party to further her own ideals.

This is not someone I want running my country. And the fact that I know people who think Palin was attacked for being a woman and being pretty. That the media covered up the “fact that her corruption was a lie” (never heard she was corrupt to begin with?!?!), that she is full of integrity ?!?! That those of us who voted for Obama voted for a slogan and did not do our due diligence to learn about what he stands for and what his issues are about. Those people SCARE AND SICKEN ME.

And I hope we are around to keep them from getting someone like Palin in office in the future. Because that would be a scary place indeed.

Tomorrow, back to my regularly scheduled programming.

Dear Mr. President-Elect~

Congratulations! You have been chosen as the leader of the United States. Please, oh please, do take care. You were voted in on a promise of change. Of fixing what is broken. Of working hard to make things better. Of hope.

And I do hope, Mr. President-Elect. I hope that we can all work together to fix this. That the supporters of your rival will put aside their anger and decide that this time, here and now, is when we all come together as one America and put ourselves back on top. Because we can’t do it without them. We will never do it if we keep playing this game. If we keep acting like we are 7 years old, on the playground, with hurt feelings because Mary decided she wanted to play with Susie instead of with me.

This will not be easy. The past 8 years have been hard on a lot of us. We, as a nation and as a people, are hurting. We’re broken. And there’s no one else out there to fix us. We have to, HAVE TO, do it ourselves. The past months of campaigning have not made it any better. We have now been pitted against each other, as wild hyenas fighting over a carcass. The words of hate, of tearing down, of division, must stop now. By January 20th, we the people of the United States of America, must stand as a united force, not one divided. We must take what we see and repair it. Neighbor, friend, rival, enemy. All working together as one.

And I believe you can help us do this, Mr. President-Elect. I believe you are a strong person, with strong shoulders. You have shown us you can take the high road and not be pulled into the muck. You can unite us with your beliefs in our country. And all we need to do is listen and work together with you to make it happen.

I look forward to working with all of you. I am proud of our country. I have been embarrassed of late that we have been so divisive, derisive, down-right nasty. But I hope it will all end now. We can do this. We must do this.

There’s too much, so here we go.

The soundtrack this week was GNO (Girls Night Out) by Miley Cyrus (or was she Hannah Montana? Maybe I’ll just call her Sybill.) I blame Carolyn…Online, talking about her girls only weekend and my hubby’s friend Tasha and her girls only weekend. I’m probably a little jealous, but the song? Has. Got. To. Go.

I won’t get into major politics but a few little statements. Starting with the election…

The same old GOP will run us all into oblivion. We need change. That change is Obama.

The scare tactics that Obama will raise taxes and build government larger, has anyone read his desire to revamp or remove all the programs currently running that are not working? That, in and of itself, would take care of much of the money for his other projects.

I have never once heard McCain say anything about education.

Sarah Palin terrifies me.

If you think McCain would not build a larger government, you haven’t been listening carefully to him.

The economy…

The GOP is all about government keeping their noses out of business, unless big business/banking is going under. Then it’s all about saving their asses.

Go check out Driftglass‘ post regarding this economic meltdown.

And the fact the bailout didn’t go through today seems a little ominous and worrisome.Irksome, the fact the GOP blamed Nancy Pelosi for partisan speech-making which caused the vote to fail. Had the democrats voted the bill down more than the republicans, I might agree. But they didn’t. Also, since when does a democrat say anything that will sway the vote of a republican? Please. There is so much finger pointing and blaming going on at this point, my farking head is spinning.

The Georgia (USA) gas situation…

Still no gas. Anywhere. I wonder if I’ll be working from home soon.

Where is the gas? I thought Sonny Perdue had upped the amount coming to our area starting over the weekend. If he did, he either miscalculated, or “mal-placed” this load as well.

I still haven’t seen any other parts of the country running low on gas. Just GA, TN, NC and SC. Why are we the only area running out? Is it just me, or is there something fishy?

The church up the road with the sign out front reading, “Keep taking my name in vain and I’ll make the gas lines longer” ? Really? I thought we so gave up the vengeful god years ago. It was my understanding god and his ilk were all about the feel good, turning the other cheek and the like. But it appears brimstone is coming back (and unfortunately not the fantastic 90′s TV show Brimstone.)

That’s it for now. I had a few more things to write, but Firefox felt it necessary to update my browser before I finished working, so I lost the last paragraph. To sum up the essence, this is my blog, my feelings and thoughts and beliefs. You may have contradictory ones to mine. Those few non-spammers who will come along and berate me will be deleted. Just sayin’.

For a week now it has been a little nerve-wracking around here. Our local gas stations have been running out of gas. Some of the gas stations have been out since last Friday (the 15th). This is crazy! What the hell is going on? Are other areas of the US experiencing the same issues as we are? If not, why not? If so, why haven’t I heard about it? Are we going to have “rolling gas shortages” like the heat wave rolling black outs in CA? Are GA and TN the first in a long line of those about to be inconvenienced? I suppose we’ll see.

My conspiracy theorist mind runs the course of:

the economy has tanked

we are running out of fuel

what are we going to do?

I unfortunately have no answer to the final point above.

And maybe I’m wrong. Maybe it is just due to Hurricane Ike knocking out a few oil rigs, causing the fuel flow to drop to 20% for a few days.

Maybe.
