Time Travel

I am such a geek about time travel and other sci-fi spacey-wacey, timey-wimey things. I am a huge fan of Doctor Who, the Torchwood spinoff, and (to a lesser extent) the Sarah Jane Adventures. I have gotten the munchkin hooked on them as well, heeheehee. AND I have been an avid reader of the Diana Gabaldon “Outlander” series for the past few years, since my sister got me hooked.

Well, tonight I couldn’t sleep, and after speaking with said sister about the (currently) last book (please, Diana, write quickly!!!), I felt disposed to visit the Diana Gabaldon official website. I poked around a bit and, just before heading off to bed thought I would take a quick peek at the podcast page. Lo and behold, Di is a fan of Doctor Who as well! I must listen to the first podcast ASAP, where it is mentioned in the notes,

“In this first episode Diana discusses the Outlander novels and how they came to be – including the influence of Dr. Who, kilts, why Claire Randall is a modern woman – and glimpses into the story of A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

Alright, I’ll be geeking out even more over this!!! You have been forewarned…

Promotion!!!

So, I recently was promoted at work. We finally found a replacement for me as administrative assistant, and now I can be my new self: Project Manager.

I will start working with Delaware North Company on some of their projects. This will encompass sports teams, airports, gaming, and resorts/parks. It’s all food and beverage marketing, which has become my specialty (for lack of a better word) since I started working in restaurants 15 years ago. It was an accidental find, and one I think hubby has greatly influenced, being a chef.

What has Obama done to deserve this???

I read this ridiculous quote this afternoon:

Glenda Kinzer, 41, from rural Ohio, believes the end of the world is about to occur. “A lot of people are talking about how Obama fits the description” of the Antichrist. “I always thought he will be from the Middle East.”

Are you KIDDING ME???? I read this in the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Is this a paper on par with the Onion? Please tell me it is!!!

July Calendar

Last year we went to Cape Cod for vacation. The trip started out disastrous, got pretty good (bordering on fantastic) once we arrived, stayed longer than we meant (due to the earlier disaster), then we came home to more disaster. But everything has turned out for the MUCH better, so don’t think I’m complaining, just stating how it was.

Part of staying longer than we meant was getting to go with my family on a whale watch in Provincetown, or P-town as it is lovingly called. While we were out we got to see the most amazing creatures. I must get a better camera and go again for better pictures as the ones I took did not do them justice. I used one of the better images I shot for this calendar page.

June Calendar

As per my usual, I’m a few days late posting my monthly calendar page. Sorry! I have already created the rest of the year as jpg’s so it will be easier for subsequent months to upload. I “shouldn’t” be late any more.

06-june.jpg

The picture on this month’s calendar page is the waterfall at Vogel State Park. I picked it for June because hubby really enjoyed the day we spent there hiking and splashing in the lake. It is quite pretty there.

Mother’s Day

In the spirit of catching up, here are some pictures from Mother’s Day.

It was a great day, with a fantastic brunch at the Blue Ridge Grill… My Mother’s Day Brunch - Salmon Omelet

(Hubby will be reviewing the restaurant at his site.)

We split an ice cream sundae at Jumpin’ Java. Big enough for 4!!! Dessert

Then munchkin and I went kite flying at the park. Kite Flying

Lastly, hubby drew a bath for me with relaxing music, candles, no dogs or munchkin, nice oils and bubbles. No pictures of this (thank goodness).

Munchkin’s Musical Madness

Boy, I have a lot to catch up on!!! The Munchkin had an Honors Chorus concert a couple of weeks ago. I remember those days, my parents lugging me and my flute and music to a college or concert hall somewhere to practice with kids from all over. They had to find something to do for the hours we were learning the music, conductor and each other well enough to put on a musically entertaining show… then there was the t-shirts, recordings, pictures, etc. that everyone wanted. Now I get to do the same on the parental side.

This concert was the Greater Atlanta Orff-Schulwerk Honors Concert. Click here for more info… Munchkin sang and danced, played recorder and xylophone… it was FANTASTIC!!! Hopefully just the beginning :) !!!

Damage Revealed

Here are a couple of pictures of our damage. Not nearly as bad as it could have been. Luckily no one was seriously injured in the storms. Sometimes wind can be a little scary.

Twister!

No, not the game or the movie. Real life! An F1 twister came through our town Monday evening. Luckily no one was hurt, but we did get the daylights scared out of us.

Unfortunately we didn’t come through completely unscathed. Our deck was pounced on by the top part of a 60 foot pine tree that was snapped in half. We’ll find out Sunday what other damage we have, roof, air conditioner, siding. We also had a gorgeous oak tree in our far back yard that was uprooted and smashed down in the wooded area of ours and our neighbor’s back yards.

I took pictures of everything, but they didn’t come out great. I will try again and post them.
